Job Title: Horse Care Attendant
Status: Full Time
Hours: Monday – Friday 6:30AM – 3:30PM. A 4-day work week and/or alternate days are options. There may be occasions where flexible hours are required due to extenuating circumstances.
Job Purpose:
Under limited supervision, ensure that the horses at Vector are kept healthy and safe; performing general horse care and farm maintenance. The horse care attendant ensures the property, including barn, riding rings and surrounding areas provide a clean, safe, pleasant and professional environment for our clients. This job reports to the Barn Owner.
Job Duties, under supervision of the Barn Manager:
- Check log book daily
- Feed, water horses
- Turn out/in (appropriately booted/blanketed/fly masks etc)
- Muck stalls
- Wash water/feed buckets
- Maintaining a clean environment in the common areas of the barn
- Horse laundry when necessary
- May be required to attend vet and/or farrier appointments
- Communicate important updates to the barn manager
- Communicate professionally and as needed with clients
- Maintain the property in good order
- Attend emergency veterinary calls when required
Skills/Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of horses and safety around horses
- At least 1 year experience working with horses
- Ability to operate basic farm equipment
- Ability to multi-task and maintain efficient work flow in the barn
- Takes initiative
- Ability to follow direction; particularly with regard to horse health
- Capable of identifying potential problems or hazards
- Must carry a cellular phone to be accessible to barn manager and staff as required
Approximate total starting annual compensation range: $40,640 – $50,900/year
- Hourly rate dependent on experience, paid bi-weekly via payroll
